Hanoi, Vietnam, May 4, 2017—As a Vietnamese, I’m often tempted to try Western foods that have been on my grocery shelves for decades.

But I often find that, unlike some Westerners, I can’t find much that is even remotely similar to what I used to enjoy as a kid.

And that’s especially true of Western food.

For many years, Vietnam was known for its abundance of Western products.

But the country has recently been experiencing a major food shortage, and many of its consumers are now turning to Western food to supplement their diets.

As of late, Vietnam has been experiencing more food shortages than ever before, and a lot of that has to do with the lack of Western foods in the country.
